Book Recommendation + Review - WATCH ME by Ada Frost

I read this book a couple months back before I ventured back into the blogging world. I remember reading the first three books in this author's debut series The Surviving Series and I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY with her writing. Each book took me on an emotional roller coaster and completely gutted me. So to say that this author was not only talented but had a way with captivating you from page to page. I knew it was a no brainer that I had to check out this new book when I came stumbling across it. I had no idea what I was in for. That cover alone had me intrigued as hell. Ms. Frost did not disappoint and this is one book that I will highly recommend as a MUST READ!!!

WHAT. DID. I. JUST. READ?!!!!! ADA????? ADA?!!! OMFG ADA!!!! First off, can I just say hott damn THAT COVER! I think I spent a hot minute just drooling over the cover before I even started reading the book. Hot dayuuuuum! Any hoot. I'm a little speechless. I'm hands down an Ada Frost fan because her Surviving Series was phenomenal and one of the best gut wrenching and emotional reads I've read to date. So of course I had to one click this bad boy and see what emotional turmoil Ada was going to put me through. Sooo not what I was expecting yet I LOVED EVERYTHING about this book. So fucking goood!!

Literally 1% in, so basically page 1 you're already laughing out loud thinking "oh yea, this is going to be a great one". It was more than that. Hot damn Ada!!! I loved it. The story, the characters, the chemistry, the passion....just everything was on point. I love that although Abby had all this other shit going on in her life it didn't take away from her personality shining through. She was funny, quick witted, a little vixen and definitely one lucky lady. And Lawson. Sexy, naughty, Lawson.... I loved him. I even love drunk Lawson, lol. I'm hoping for some more Sam too. He definitely is a sexy thing too.

This book was definitely different from what I'm used to reading from this author. But she does not disappoint. Great story line, great characters, great delivery, great flow of the story....It's fun, funny, incredibly sexy and absolutely a must read.

Hi! What to say about myself...I love to read, and create stories for others to enjoy. I've always been told I have a vivid imagination, I just lacked the confidence to pursue putting it onto the written page. But finally I embarked on making a single dream come true.

I love to read, and write. I only read romance, any genre really, but it has to have a beautiful romance. I also demand a HEA, even if it takes two or three books to get there. Reality is too broken and jaded without having to live through the trauma and angst in a book for it to end unhappily.

Cover Reveal: Double Betrayal (Surviving #3) by Ada Frost

Double Betrayal (Surviving #3)
By
Ada Frost

Release date: 29th January

Emily’s life had three basic rules, love her family fiercely. Never expect forever and most importantly, shield her heart from pain. At a tender age she had learned love is not forever, sex destroys and if you don’t invest your heart, it can never be broken. She played life safe.

All it takes though, is one moment, a defining light in the perpetual darkness to bring life into your heart. For Emily, it was a night she would never forget, an ordinary evening of dancing, drinking and if she was in the mood, a brief one night stand. But then he beguiled her. His emerald eyes captivated and enslaved her to him.

What Emily didn’t anticipate was the mysterious giant to sit beside her and rock her foundations. His dirty mouth and sexy innuendos intrigued her. The green eyed Adonis took her for the ride of her life, on his motorbike. One she would never forget. He intertwined himself into her life and captured her soul.

But the illusion of beauty can hide a broken past. And as the lovers fall deeper, the darkness leeches into the light, suffocating and destroying all within its path. Until there is nothing left but betrayal and shattered hearts.

Due to sexual content, it may not be suitable for readers under the age of 18 years of age.

I climbed into the shower and sat beside him. It felt a little stupid sitting on the floor of the shower with him but I didn’t know what else to do.

“Who are they, Johan?”

“In the big house, they’ll know we’re here. He said I had to stay quiet,” he whispered. He lifted his hand and pointed towards the door, then frowned staring at his hands. “I can’t get it off. It won’t come off. Look, I...it won’t come off,” he choked as he held his hands out in front of him. I couldn’t see anything on his hands; they were clean, completely pruned and wrinkly from the water.

“What’s on them?” I asked gently. I felt like I was talking to one of the kids in class.

“Her blood, it’s everywhere.” He sobbed. His hands shook as he twisted them wiping at imaginary blood.

“Sweetheart, nothing is there.” I put my hands around his, and he pulled away from me so fiercely he banged into the side of the wall. I flinched for him because that had to have hurt.

“Don’t touch me, I’m vile. You...I can’t spoil you,” he gasped, curling into the corner away from me. Tears mixed with the water on his face.

“Johan, you can’t spoil me. I’m going to clean you, okay? Together we will get you clean.” I shifted towards him slowly.

“I’ll spoil you. I make everything bad,” he said pleadingly. I paused, puzzled by the beautiful, broken man before me.

“No you won’t, I promise. Come here...please,” I begged. I held out my arms hoping he would come to me. The shower cubicle wasn’t large but the way he was pulling away from me, it was as if the Grand Canyon stood between us. I could see the indecision in his face before he moved into my arms. I wrapped myself around him, cradling him to me as he sobbed loudly. He gripped at my wet clothes, as if he wanted to be as close as humanly possible. I stroked his hair and kissed the top of his head, whispering loving words to try to soothe him.

The water had warmed his skin, but he still shivered.

“Johan?” I whispered.

“Why do the people I love die? I have their blood on my hands, what did I do...to make them leave me?“

~ Excerpt ~

“Does she need a blanket?” I asked when her tiny frame shuddered in her sleep as if she was shivering. “She looks cold.”

The nurse’s lips pinched with irritation. “She’s fine. But you really need to get back to your own room. They said you just got off dialysis yesterday. You don’t want to overdo it.”

I nodded as if agreeing, but answered, “Just a little bit longer.”

With a grumble, she spun away and stalked off. When I heard the phrase, “...typical single teen mother. Thinks she knows everything...” I turned and stared after her, watching the extra twenty pounds of weight on her waistline shift back and forth as she marched off in an angry huff.

I don’t know why I let her comment get to me. Maybe it was still pregnancy hormones swimming through my veins, the start of some baby blues, or normal insecurity issues of a typical new nineteen-year-old mom. But tears immediately filled my eyes. I turned back to my child, small and helpless, fighting for her life, and the floodgate opened even more.

What the hell did I think I was

I’d gone into this with my usual fake confidence, thinking sure I could raise a kid. Millions of women popped out babies every year. Why would I have a problem with it? And look, I’d almost gotten Skylar killed.

I sobbed even harder, my chest heaving. I had to pull my hand free of Skylar’s incubator and bury my face in both my palms to muffle the gut-wrenching sounds so I wouldn’t wake her.

She was here, like this, because I was unfit, because

“Hey,” a cheerful voice interrupted my pity party. “Well, looks who’s up and out of bed already.”

He sounded so relieved and happy. I turned to look up at Pick. He stood in the doorway with the biggest grin and a pink gift bag dangling from his hand. When he saw my face, his smile dropped flat.

“What’s wrong? Skylar?” He dropped the bag as he hurried to the incubator.

The worry on his face warmed my heart and helped calm my tears. “No, she’s okay. Getting better every day.”

A heavy sigh escaped him as he set his hand on the clear plastic separating him from my daughter. “Thank God.”

I blinked, still in awe over how worried he’d been. “How did you get back here?” They hadn’t even allowed Reese into the NICU. She still had to look at Skylar through the window in the hall.

“Being a flirt comes in handy sometimes.” He finally turned to me and winked. “The nurses love me.” His grin was brief though. His worry returned almost immediately as he reached down to pluck me out of the chair. “Now what’re all these tears about? You’re looking better, by the way. The yellow skin and swollen face scared the shit out of me.”

I didn’t realize he was going to sit me in his lap until he was already settling me into place. I felt even younger, and stupider than I had when I’d started my crying jag. A silly little girl needing to sit on a nice comforting lap to get over herself.

“I don’t know,” I mumbled, wiping the drops off my cheeks and feeling lame. “I’m just so...overwhelmed.” Along with scared, worried, lost, unsure—ugh! What happened to the cocky Eva Mercer I’d been a year ago? I’d take a nice, big dose of her right now.

Pick chuckled and kissed my forehead, stirring up a nest of butterflies in my stomach. Or maybe it was the staples in the c-section cut that created such a sensation, except I really couldn’t feel much in that area. Awesome drugs and all.

Unable to help myself I plunked my head onto his nice, wide comforting shoulder. I mean, he was offering it. I couldn’t resist. And it felt good, so amazingly good to let someone hold me for a minute.

I’m having such a major Book Hangover!!! I can’t focus on my next read. I think I’m ruined!! I finished reading this book and I can’t move on! I had to process it all before writing this review. Ada Frost is the shit!!! She has a gift to pull you in and make you feel every emotion that will make you smile, make you swoon, make you mad, make you laugh and crush your heart and every other emotion these characters go through. I mean right through the pages gut you. I was a blubbering mess reading this book. And let me tell ya, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I absolutely LOVED this book. I thought she did a fantastic job with the first book in this series Elemental Fear and she just took it to a whole new level with this one.

This book was fucking PHENOMENAL!!! I don’t even think anything I say can truly convey how fucking great this book is. The characters are truly magnificent. The story was so heartbreaking and touching and joyful and written with such emotion it mesmerizes you.

We met Johan in Book one and I instantly fell in love with him. He was sweet, flirty, playful and such a caring, good hearted guy and an amazing supportive friend to Eve. We caught glimpses of the broken soul that he is and I was so hoping he would get his own book because I wanted to know more about this mysterious kind hearted man. So to say that I was super excited when I found out about him getting his own book is an understatement. I wanted it, I needed it and I absolutely had to read it. And boy, oh boy…… I was not expecting this at all.

I knew that Johan’s past was going to be painful and with the emotional state I was in with Book one, I knew I was in for a few shedded tears. I was sooooo not prepared for what I read. It was heartbreaking and gut wrenching. Johan suffered far more abuse than a young boy should. It truly broke my heart the abuse that he suffered as a young boy at the hands of those that are supposed to protect you. He’s carried such a burden of emotional scars for many years and for him to open his heart to Lou was such a beautiful thing to read.

Louise is pregnant with a man who doesn’t want anything to do with the baby and as much as she tries to hold on, she realizes that she just needs to cut her loses and do what is best for her and her baby. She thought she had her “forever” guy. She wasn’t expecting to feel so strongly for Johan even though she was attracted to him when she first met him. She thinks he’s annoying and the banter between the two is hilarious. Just when she thinks she’s alone here comes this beautiful broken soul to stand by her side.

But what happens when you can’t let go of the past? There are some things that Johan must face before he can let it all go. Lou always acting strong and hard ass, pulls up her big girl panties and has to make a decision that she knows will not only hurt her but Johan as well, but she feels it must be done to move forward.

Watching Johan and Lou go through the emotional obstacles and sticking by each other is just magical. Ada really did a fantastic job. Amazingly well written and such great main and supporting characters. And the story line was absolutely beautiful and flowed so perfectly. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would absolutely without a doubt give it so much more. Ada has slipped her way in so easily into my top five favorite authors with her amazing talent, captivating imagination and emotional reads. I highly recommend reading not just this book but the entire series because I am hoping there is more to come. I’ll be waiting not so patiently and in the meantime will stock up on boxes of tissues.
