Book Review - SAY YES by J.R Grey

Title: Say Yes
Author: J.R. Gray
Series: Bound to be Naughty, #1
Genre: M/M Romance
Publication Date: July 24, 2017

BLURB

James failed.
He tried to be what they wanted.
He tried to deny it.
He tried to be a good Catholic boy…but it’s become too much.
He craves pain, submission.
He’s denied himself far too long, and it’s eating him alive.

Charles thrives off the exchange of power. He knows the world revolves around control. It’s given and taken like currency, in business and in pleasure. He won’t get attached, though, or so he tells himself, until James turns his world upside down. He’s defiant and snarky, but Charles can taste the submission on him.

Charles holds the key to his salvation but James has to Say Yes.

This is the first time I'm reading from this author and I was a bit hesitant to read this. The ratings for this book fluctuate so I wasn't sure what to expect going in. While the story didn't really peek my interest, it was a short quick read that did have some hot sex scenes.

Where I would have rated this a 2.5 stars because it just didn't really do anything for me. It was like watching a movie with bad acting in it. And then it ends on a cliffhanger?! It was already a short read as it is and now we have to wait for another book?  But at any rate, the potential, effort and sex scenes gets it a 3 stars.

Will I finish reading this? Maybe. I'm not jumping out of my seat for the next book but I'm sure once it's released I'll get around to it at some point just to see how the rest of it plays out. Sadly, we can't like them all but just because this wasn't for me any one else who enjoys M/M romance and the D/S relationship this may be one you want to give it a go.

About the Author

When not staying up all night writing, J.R. Gray can be found at the gym where it's half assumed he is a permanent resident to fulfill his self-inflicted masochism. A dominant and a pilot, Gray finds it hard to be in the passenger seat of any car. He frequently interrupts real life, including normal sleep patterns and conversations, to jot down notes or plot bunnies. Commas are the bane of his existence even though it's been fully acknowledged they are necessary, they continue to baffle and bewilder.

If Gray wasn't writing…well, that's not possible. The buildup of untold stories would haunt Gray into an early grave, insanity or both. The idea of haunting has always appealed to him.

J.R. Gray is gender queer and prefers he/him pronouns.

This is my first read from this author and from what I can see this is her first M/M story. Sadly, this was not at all what I thought it would be and it really lacks a lot that what normally keep me intrigued. As I said this is my first read from this author so I can't really compare it to her M/F books but this story just fell flat. There were some parts I did enjoy but not many.

First off, the MC's chemistry and passion was nonexistent. There was no emotion and I felt no connection to any of the characters. It was like to going through the motion just to get to the end. It was hard to get into the story and get that sexy vibe when most of the sex scenes just really grossed me out.

The story finally got some type of reaction out of me towards the end. I did enjoy the ending and glad these guys got their HEA but unfortunately, this book just didn't do it for me. I think this author has potential and this was a good attempt. Hopefully if there is ever another M/M book from this author she gives her characters a little more class and emotion.

From USA Today Best- Selling Author comes book one in The Sweet Sin Series.

Meet the men of the rock band, Trained in Black.

His life headed in one direction, mine in the other. While Roman became the lead singer for the successful rock band Trained in Black, I became a ruthless attorney.

He moved on and married someone else. As I was forced to observe him and his bride on the cover of every magazine out there, I deserved to suffer because of what I had done.

What I didn’t expect was a phone call that led to me becoming his new attorney.

After years apart, our opposite worlds collide. This time, we may get our someday. But first, we have to find a way to steer us in the right direction.

I must be in a major book funk because I am just not feeling it. Although this author does a spectacular job on the filthy talking Roman Nixon and the sexy times, I didn't really care for much else. I felt no connection or emotions from the characters.

It was just an okay story for me. I couldn't really get into it. I struggled to stay focused on the story and read it through to the end. The dynamic of the relationship between Roman and Joslyn just felt so unnatural. All the drama just seemed so overly exaggerated and I found myself rolling my eyes.

A lot of the story was rushed so I didn't get more in depth in the parts where I maybe would've liked. It was like ok this is happening.......end scene.........three days later. UH?!

I don't know, this is my first time reading a book from this author and the blurb sounded great. Unfortunately, this one just wasn't one for me.

I was definitely intrigued by the story and I've been following this series so it was a must read for me. I've never read anything from this author before so I didn't know what to expect. This book didn't exactly follow the other stories in the series. It took me a while to get into it. I just couldn't figure out exactly what it was that I was reading. At first it felt like a jumble of thoughts thrown in with hot sex but as I got more into the story then it became a little more interesting.

This was a quick interesting read with scorching sex. And of course Reece Richards! I mean the man is just all sorts of yummy. The author did a good job showcasing the relationship between Emma and Reece. I think that the whole super hero could've played more of a role into the story and maybe some more background info. So although, I don't think this read really suited me it may be a great read for other readers.

SERIES REVIEW: The Gilded Flower Series by Vivian Winslow

Series: The Gilded Flower Series
Author:  Vivian Winslow
Genre:  Erotic Romance

Synopsis of Gilded Lily (Book 1): After catching her fiancé Jack in bed with her sister the day before her wedding, New York socialite Lily Baron escapes to Rio, her honeymoon destination—alone. There, Marcelo, the dark and sexy hotel masseur, releases a heated passion Lily had never experienced with Jack. When Lily meets handsome and powerful Brazillionaire Gustavo de Lima, she can hardly resist him. There’s just one problem. He’s married. In this uber-sensual city, will Lily’s reluctance to be with a married man, in light of her own fiancé’s betrayal, give way to her burning desire for Gustavo?

Review:
Lily catches her fiancé in bed with her twin sister the night before the wedding.  Calling everything off and taking off to her honeymoon destination by herself, she slowly gains back her confidence and embraces a whole new side of herself.

Feeling sexier than she’s every felt Lily becomes a little vixen and seems to be horny all the time. She finds not only one but two guys to satisfy her needs, the masseuse and the hot brazillionaire.

This story had great potential. Even as a short story I found it difficult to focus my attention on it. It had moments where it was sexy and steamy, but not erotic. The sex scenes lacked that intensity that you would expect from an erotic story. I was unable to connect with the characters. Lily just comes off as a woman who has no idea what she wants and after everything that happened with her fiancé, Jack, who was also her first, she all of a sudden wants to have sex with any hot guy that looks her way.

I liked the story line and it does end in a cliffhanger; that alone made me want to continue reading to see what happens next.

Synopsis of Calla Lily (Book 2): Having experienced a profound personal and sexual awakening during her solo honeymoon to Brazil, New York socialite Lily Baron rushes back to New York upon hearing the news that her father has fallen ill. Now, Lily must take the helm of the Baron Media empire and fend off a high-stakes hostile takeover attempt. With the fate of the company hanging in the balance, will Lily be able to resist the advances of the luring, unwanted suitor in the boardroom as well as the bedroom?

Review:
Lily comes home and rushes to her father’s hospital bed after he suffers from a stroke. Lily’s steps in as acting CEO to Baron Media while her father recovers. Throwing herself in work and trying to forget the train wreck that she got herself in by getting involved with a married man, she welcomes the distraction.

Again, I found it hard to connect with Lily. All she seems to do is end up in bed with someone because she just can’t control her desire. Gustavo, her hottie, married brazillonaire, is back in the picture.

These stories fall short of that emotional connect I want when reading a story. Also, it lacks that erotic essence. Sure there are sex scenes but they don’t have enough of that WOW factor for me.

Synopsis of Tiger Lily (Book 3): Weary from battling a hostile takeover attempt of her family’s company, Lily seeks a distraction in Todd, an erstwhile bartender with a large trust fund and magical tongue. Meanwhile, a connection seems to be developing between Lily and Alejandro, a wealthy and gorgeous Cuban-American, whose brother, Rodrigo, is dating Lily’s twin sister, Dahlia. When Alejandro unexpectedly rebuffs Lily one night, she is deeply dismayed.  But, after seeing Alejandro’s picture with a gorgeous Latina model in the gossip pages, Lily thinks it wasn’t just a misunderstanding. When the sisters and brothers reunite in Aspen for a ski weekend, will Lily’s heart remain frozen or will the fire between her and Alejandro rekindle and melt away the ice?

Review:
Lily is blind-sided by an unwanted business proposal from Gustavo and is feeling used. Spending time away and seeking sexual comfort from Todd is her plan to try and get over this whole ordeal with Gustavo.

A quick read, the last one in this series and I still felt no connection to Lily or any of the other characters. In fact, I just wanted to slap Lily for being so damn weak and becoming such a bed hopper.

The only character that I really liked was Alejandro. He was just genuinely nice to her and didn’t seem to have an ulterior motive. Not enough steamy sex for me and the ending just left me like ‘WTF!’ It just seemed unfinished. It seemed Lily was finally finding her footing and perhaps an HEA but then it just ends.
