REVIEW: Beautifully Unbroken by D.M. Brittle

Title: Beautifully Unbroken
Author: D.M. Brittle

My Rating: 4 Stars

Synopsis

All Jo Summers wants in life is to be happy. But her previous relationship led her to believe that happiness doesn't exist without pain. Building a wall around herself, she refuses to let any man get close enough to break her down ? that is, until Blake Mackenzie walks into her life. She is drawn to him immediately and finds him too hard to resist even though she knows she should. When Blake finds out about Jo's past, he makes it his mission to fix her and prove that happiness does exist without pain. Their journey isn't without struggle, however, as Jo tries to walk away time and time again. But eventually she learns that it's time to stop running and face her fears head-on.

Review
Drama and emotionally packed! This was a great read with great characters.

Jo has terrible experiences when it comes to relationships. She is convinced that she will never be able to let another man in because it always ends with her getting hurt. With a new life in New York, she falls hard and fast for a co-star, Blake Mackenzie. But, is she brave enough to face her fears and let him in? Can she truly open her heart and reveal her past?

Blake Mackenzie didn’t do relationships. He never found one that was worthy until he sets his eyes on Jo Summers. A terrible mistake has her pushing him away and running at every turn. Will he be able to tear down her walls and show her that she can have love and happiness without pain?

This was a bit of an emotional read. Jo has been through a lot in the past and is weary about letting her walls down. She is constantly waiting for something to go horribly wrong. She is a firm believer that happiness is always followed by pain. She is a bit of a drama queen and overreacts and allows her jealousy to cloud her judgment at times.

However, Blake is madly in love and is willing to do anything to prove to her that what they have is special. He is determined to show her that he can give her everything she’s always wanted. I really liked Blake. His character was not only sexy and masculine but sensitive and caring. He is not afraid to express his love for Jo.

I wasn’t quite fond of Jo. I found her to be a little to overly dramatic and needy. But she grew on me the more you read. You can understand her reservations and her fear of being hurt again. This story had some great supporting characters. Casey, Jo’s best friend, is funny, witty, outgoing and is a really great friend. Alex, Blake’s best friend, I instantly liked especially when he stormed in and shed some light onto Jo and giving her shit for hurting his best friend. I absolutely loved Jo’s mom. She didn’t hold back and told Jo when she was being ridiculous. Cooper won me over in the very beginning because he was another great support system for Jo when she needed it. But then he became questionable and mysterious when he crosses a huge boundary.

I really liked the family dynamic. They had such a great bond with each other. I loved the passion and chemistry between Jo and Blake. They definitely couldn’t keep their hands off each other. A great story with a great ending!!

Meet the Author

D. M. Brittle had been interested in writing a novel for a few years but had never managed to put pen to paper until January 2013. She loves romance novels and is in love with the idea of love, which made writing Jo and Blake’s story her passion. Her writing stalled last summer when her dad became ill. Unfortunately her dad passed away just before Christmas. Starting the New Year, she decided to get back into writing the story, knowing that her dad would be more than proud of her for achieving something that she had dreamed about for so long.

Brittle currently lives in the West Midlands, England, with her husband of fourteen years and her two girls, who are nine and four.
