ARC REVIEW: Wildcard Volume One by Missy Johnson

Title: Wildcard: Volume One
Series: Wildcard #1
Author: Missy Johnson
Release Date: September 4, 2014

Synopsis

246.

That's the number of women I've shagged in the last twelve months.

I'm Ryder Stevens.

Don't pretend you don't know me. I'm a god.

I'm hot, I'm British and I take what I want. I'm also the number one ranked tennis player in the world. But it's my off court antics that gain the most attention. I cruise through life, running from one scandal to the next. Hell I can't even take a piss without the world knowing about it.

Rules? Who gives a shit?

Rules are there to be broken and I'm the king of breaking them.

But even the king can be bought to his knees. I'm sidelined with an injury that changes everything.

Maybe my life isn't so perfect after all...

Review

Well someone sure is very cocky and arrogant. Ryder Stevens says and does what he wants without thinking of the consequences. He plays a great tennis game but doesn’t seem to take it seriously. The only thing that he seems to be worried about is who will be his new piece for the night or at that moment.

This book had me laughing because it just seems that Karma had plans for Mr. Arrogant. Ryder injures himself and has to stay in bed for several weeks to recover before he can be back on the court. He finds that he has a lot of time on his hands.

A letter from a 10 year old fan, Jake, has him doing things he normally wouldn’t do. Spending time talking and getting to know Scarlett, Jake’s mom, has him feeling all sorts of ways which he hasn’t felt in a while.

At first I thought ‘Wow, this dude is a prick.’ But as the story progresses we get to see a different side to him that will have you softening your heart towards him. The closer to the end I was starting to feel giddy and excited for Ryder. He starts to realize that he wants more.

The cliffhanger killed me. I felt so sad for Ryder. Lies. Deception. Heartache. What’s going on? I need to know more!!

Love the story line and entertaining characters. The women in this book surely know what they want and are bold enough to make a move. I love that about female characters. And this ending will have you wanting to know more about what is going on with Scarlett.
