Review - The Pact by Karina Halle

Synopsis

It all started with a pinky swear…

Linden McGregor is tall, rugged, and gunslinger handsome; a helicopter pilot with a Scottish brogue and charm to spare. He’s also one of Stephanie Robson’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as she’s known him.

Beautiful, funny and an ambitious businesswoman (with one hell of an ass), Stephanie Robson is one of Linden McGregor’s best friends and has fit into that box for as long as he’s known her.

But some relationships can’t be boxed, can’t be classified, can’t be tamed.

Back in their mid-twenties and tired of the competitive hit-or-miss dating scene of San Francisco, Steph and Linden made a pact to marry each other if neither one of them are in a serious relationship by the time they hit thirty.

It sounds like fun and games but as the years to thirty tick past and lovers come and go out of their lives, the pact becomes larger than life.
Sex is inevitable. Friendships are tested. Hearts are on the line.

The pact is about to change everything.

Review
4 Stars

I was really eager to read this book. There was so much hype about it and I kept thinking “Yes, another 5 star read” but sadly it just fell a little short for me. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the story a great deal but it just wasn’t that BANG the hype made it out to be.

There were parts that were emotional and tugged at my heart but it wasn’t that all-consuming heart wrenching emotional read that I thought it would be. Maybe I came into it with too much expectations, I’m not sure. I loved the whole idea of ‘The Pact’. That was brilliant and the fact that the characters were already best friends made it even better. Two friends who already know each other like the back of their hands. Genius.

However, their time together as a ‘couple’ was very short. As short as it was, it was very sexy. Linden was just delicious. I’m a sucker for a guy who is a ‘dirty talker’ and oh how Linden falls right into that category. Stephanie was, well I’m not really sure what to say about her. I didn’t really find anything special about her and therefore lacked that connection to her.

Linden and Stephanie just went through the motions. They really didn’t fight for each other, which is what I was expecting but it really didn’t come until the very last minute but even then it was simple. No explosions, no battle, no fireworks, no big undying love shebang.

I loved that it was in dual POV. It’s always a pleasure to get inside the guy’s head and to see where each of them is coming from emotionally. The banter between the characters will give you a good laugh. Did I enjoy the story? Yes. I thought this was a good read but like I said I just think I went into it with higher expectations.
