Binx continues to drive. I watch him while he sings quietly
along with the stereo. It’s then I realize I’m about to do something really
stupid.
It’s like my heart beats the shit out of my brain. My
brain’s in a full nelson and my heart has full control. The song ends and my
swollen heart goes and throws all my damn cards on the table. “I love you.”
Once the words leave my mouth my heart shrinks back and my brain kicks back in.
Oh. Shit.
Binx cocks his head to the side and the car slows slightly
while he lowers the stereo. I can’t really gauge his reaction because we both
face forward and frankly I’m too scared to look. I hear him clear his throat.
“I…did you—?”
“Forget it.” I say quickly. My face warms so I turn to look
out the window. It was stupid to say anything. It will just mess everything up.
“No,” Binx takes my hand. “I…I thought I imagined it. I may
do that…a lot.”
I peek at him through my hair. “Huh?”
“I love you, Jordan. I think I loved you from the moment I
first saw you in the bar. Do you know I felt you before I saw you? Like my heart
knew you before I had the chance. You fill up this part of me that I thought
would be broken forever. You make me want to be a better man.”
